Hello newbies ;)
we're almost ready to get started ~ hope you all had a lovely summer and that you've charged your batteries, ready to dive into webdesign :) I'm looking forward to getting to know you all and to teach you :)
To get your head into webdesign and in preparation for our first lesson ~ here is a little task I'd like you to complete.
what is webdesign?
Before getting started with designing for the web yourself ~ consider the term webdesign and what it means to you right now. Collect quotes, images, links and anything else you might find useful and bring this in for our first lesson (15/9/2011, 10am).
You are free to do this in any way you choose: making notes and drawing sketches on paper / creating a collage (traditional or digital) / collecting files in a folder... or any other way you might think of ~ be creative ;)
I would recommend that you use the new and lovely GimmeBar for this. Still in beta ~ this online tool will allow you to collect various sources together in one place and easily share your collection with others.
some info on GimmeBar:
created by FictiveKin ~ GimmeBar is an online tool to collect anything from quotes to videos, images and entire webpages. Using the browser addon, or the bookmarklet, you can start growing your collection of content. GimmeBar also links together its users and allows you to browse public content others have saved ~ a treasure trove of inspiration.
To quote one of its developers, Sean Coates:
The elevator pitch for the project goes something like this: Gimme Bar is a personal utility to help you capture and collect interesting things you find in your day-to-day use of the Web.
to complete task with GimmeBar
- request an invite for a beta account of GimmeBar
(note: if you do not manage to get an account ~ remember that you can do this in any way you choose)
- set up a new collection, titled "webdesign"
- collect images, quotes and links to inspirational sources
in case you are curious - here is my GimmeBar collection:
see you next week ;)
have fun ~ think creatively ~ share your thoughts :)
