The course takes you through all aspects of webdesign from brainstorming initial ideas, developing site maps and flow charts, creating presentation mock ups from roughs to editing and preparing images and graphics for the net. You will learn how to hand code a site - using the latest recommended techniques as well as incorporating Flash. Training in professional software - Illustrator, Photoshop, HTML editors as well as Flash - occur together with professional practice and contextual studies.
The first term will focus on teaching you the techniques used to create and edit suitable images and graphics for your website. Computer sessions tend to be very software led while the contextual studies lessons will focus on subjects such as colour theory, layout principles and typography. At the same time introducing you to the basics of XHTML and CSS. You will have completed your first site by the end of term.
Term 2 will go deeper into hand coding and look at more advanced techniques as well as professional site set up - compatible with the web standards and accessibility guidelines. You will also learn Flash and basic actionscript.
The last term will venture yet further into more complex techniques and working methods, covering basic javascript and php as well as server side considerations. Sessions will be more flexible and allow time to complete the final online portfolio.
The course is validated by the nationally recognised organization London Open College Network. On completion of the course you will be awarded a LOCN Access Certificate.
Successful completion of the course is dependent on you attending 80% of classes and achieving 16 unit credits. Continous assessment will take place throughout the year in individual tutorial sessions.
